The kalimba is an African musical instrument consisting of a wooden board (often hollowed for resonance) with attached staggered metal tines. The instrument is played by holding it in your hands and plucking the tines with your thumbs. It’s that simple. The kalimba is classified as a lamellophone, and an idiophone.

Solid Mahogany

Unlike other inexpensive thumb pianos, the Donner kalimba is made of a solid mahogany resonance box and carbon steel keys that provide a drastically better sound. Each kalimba has been rigorously tuned before packaging, to ensure the tone is perfect when you get it. This kalimba is tuned the the same as a piano , international standard C tuning. 1(E), 2(C5), 3(A), 4(F), 5(D), 6(C4), 7(E), 8(G), 9(B), 10(D). Key Material: Carbon Steel

How to Tune Kalimba

Tuning the kalimba is actually just adjusting the exposed length of the tines until they reach the

correct pitch.

1: Tuner:
You can use a real tuner or download a tunning App.
Android system app: gStrings, Apple system app: Instuner.

2. Tune with harmmer:
Making tines longer (from the point where they are held down on the bridge) will lower their pitch, and making them shorter will make their pitch higher.
